Microsoft says it has no way of knowing if its botnet takedowns will disrupt police investigations. Legal restrictions prevent police and Microsoft from disclosing information about botnet investigations, meaning both sides were kept in the dark.

And a new remote access trojan that contains surveillance capabilities is targeting anti-regime activists in Syria, the site of continuing violent conflicts.
