A worm, exploiting the emergency Microsoft patch, turns infected computers into bots that can launch DDoS attacks. Internet fraudsters did not wait long to capitalise on the election of Barack Obama, flooding inboxes on Wednesday with malware spam. Microsoft has reported 'strong deployments' of the MS08-067 Security Bulletin. The amount of malware being punted around the internet is growing at an exponential rate, and traditional locally-based protection applications will soon buckle under the strain, web security firm F-Secure has warned. AVG announced yesterday that it would be offering a free year of service after its antivirus software got confused and misidentified a key Windows system file as malware.
