McAfee has appointed Michael Sentonas, an 11 year McAfee veteran, to the newly created role of vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) Asia Pacific.

Based in Sydney, Sentonas who was the director for Sales Engineering and Services for McAfee in the Asia Pacific prior to this role, will work with international colleagues from EMEA and the Americas to advance McAfee relationships with key customers and partners in each region.

"Asia Pacific is a key growth market for McAfee and there is a lot of innovation in the Asia Pacific region that I would like to leverage to help meet the needs of customers in the region," Sentonas said.

"As McAfee continues to build, partner and acquire best of breed security solutions, it is important that the needs of our customers in Asia Pacific are met and at the same time it is very exciting to leverage some of the innovation coming from our region."

Sentonas joined McAfee in 1999 and has over fifteen years experience in the IT industry, focusing on internet security. His past roles include sales engineering and services, software development, security consulting and management.

With the new role, Sentonas joins McAfee's newly created Office of the CTO, an initiative created by McAfee and rolled out across regions, which analyses market trends, customer feedback, and focuses on key customers, partners and governments around the globe. It also takes care of activities such as keynotes, media presentations, industry associations.

"We established the Office of the CTO to help drive innovation throughout McAfee by analysing market trends and customer feedback, and incorporating it into the product development cycle. Asia Pacific is also very different to other parts of the world and has unique requirements so this initiative is very important to allow our partners to directly collaborate with the Office of the CTO and stay ahead in the war against cybercrime," said Sentonas.

"Michael's knowledge of the IT security market is extensive and with his leadership we will strengthen our position as the world's largest dedicated security company," said worldwide CTO George Kurtz.
