SC Awards open for nominations

More gongs for a growing information security industry.

The third annual SC Magazine awards to be handed out at May's AusCERT conference are open for nominations.

Categories have doubled from last year, reflecting the growth in the Australian information security industry and confidence in the awards program, said SC Magazine editor in chief Nate Cochrane.

In addition to the awards for innovation, vendor and product of the year, this year SC Magazine recognises emergent categories for products and services to defend networks against attack including new awards for defence of mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones and a gong for managed and cloud services.

“We have seen a rise in the number of solutions to secure mobile devices and to protect systems through and in the cloud, indicative of the opportunity and threat these vectors represent,” Cochrane said.

“And AusCERT is where the information security community and the industry intersect so it’s appropriate for these awards to honour those who protect our network infrastructure from attack.”

Judges

Returning judges empanelled for the awards include AISA president Keith Price, Lockbox chief technology officer Rick Harvey, author and speaker Nigel Phair, CQR Consulting director and CISSP Phil Kernick, Logica CISO Ajoy Ghosh, Sense of Security director and CTO Jason Edelstein and Securus Global managing director Drazen Drazic.

New to the expanded team this year are IBRS analyst James Turner, Ben Robson (IPSec), Alastair Macgibbon (Surete) and Nick Ellsmore (Stratsec/BAE).

Entries close on March 25 with finalists to be announced a month later. The awards will be handed out at the AusCERT gala dinner on May 17.
