McAfee has signed a definitive agreement to acquire database security and vulnerability management vendor Sentrigo.
With this acquisition, McAfee said that it plans to fully integrate the Sentrigo's database security solutions into its ePolicy Orchestrator software, enabling complete management from a single platform.
Sentrigo has been working with McAfee to deliver customer solutions as a member of the Security Innovation Alliance (SIA). It integrated its Hedgehog database technology and products with McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator platform in September 2010 and shortly after entered the two entered into an OEM relationship, with Sentrigo technology forming the basis of three products: McAfee Vulnerability Manager for Databases; McAfee Database Activity Monitoring; and McAfee Integrity Monitoring for Databases.
The planned acquisition is expected to close in April and comes a month after Intel's acquisition of McAfee was completed.
Sentrigo said that it was ‘excited about the opportunity to become an important part of an established leader in the security field and truly believe that McAfee is the perfect home for our business'.
Nathan Shuchami, CEO of Sentrigo, said: “The regular stream of public breach announcements is evidence that we must all do much more to protect mission-critical database environments and Sentrigo has been working for more than four years to develop a suite of products to best secure these assets.
“As part of McAfee, Sentrigo will be in a position to deliver these best-of-breed solutions to address a much broader range of customer's database security and compliance challenges.”
Dave DeWalt, president of McAfee, said: “The integration of Sentrigo with McAfee will provide customers with the highest level of security across their database environments and allow companies to rapidly deploy a database security strategy in a cost-effective manner.
“McAfee is continuing to broaden its security portfolio to now secure databases, as well as endpoints, networks, email, and web. In addition to the acquisition announcement, McAfee is also announcing a complete database security platform which includes products across the McAfee portfolio.”
Following the closing of the transaction, the Sentrigo team will report into McAfee's Risk & Compliance business unit, headed by Stuart McClure.
