Sourcefire has announced the launch of a new version of its intrusion prevention systems (IPS) technology, as well as plans to release a new IPS and a high-speed platform.
Sourcefire said IPS 4.10 adds increased application awareness, improved graphical user interface performance and detection for applications such as Facebook, Windows Media Player, Google Toolbar and Apple, Android and BlackBerry mobile devices.
Also set for launch is a streamlined IPS named the Sourcefire IPSx, and the 8000 Series of appliances. The latter is a modular and scalable high-speed platform powered by its FirePower technology for enterprises
It said that the 8000 Series appliances address enterprise requirements for flexible configurations, lower entry prices and faster processing of network data. They also offer interface modularity, allowing customers the flexibility to choose and expand the number and type of ports to suit their needs.
As part of the 8000 Series set of network modules, Sourcefire will introduce a 40Gbps security interface later next year.
The Sourcefire IPSx is for organisations with security or compliance requirements but that may not have a dedicated security team.
“As threats continue to become more targeted and sophisticated, companies of all sizes are increasingly at risk," said Marc Solomon, vice president of product management at Sourcefire.
"With today's additions to Sourcefire's IPS portfolio and enhancements to the core technology, we are enabling customers to implement the exact solution to fit their configuration, price and performance requirements.”
