Google kills 11 bad Android apps

Apps ping premium SMS when victims enter China.

Google has removed 11 malicious Android applications that contained code capable of sending premium SMS spam. The code was discovered by a Taiwanese anti-virus firm AegisLab this week and was removed from the app market overnight. The infected applications would activate and deliver spam to three premium SMS phone numbers when victims visited China. Malware writers had attempted to hide the malicious code with “special coded text” that would subscribe victims to the premium service numbers, the researchers said.
