RSA SecurID tokens are compromised and the company will be forced to replace some of the 40 million tokens in use by customers.
The move breaks a stonewall by RSA to rumours that its SecurID system was rendered unsafe after hackers compromised the service in March this year.
RSA had previously maintained customers could be put at further risk if it had confirmed its token system was compromised.
