RSA hires a security chief

Troubled RSA grabs Netwitness security chief after acquisition.

RSA has hired its first chief security officer to direct internal information security in the company.

Eddie Schwartz had moved across from the CSO spot at Netwitness which RSA acquired in April.

He made the announcement over Twitter. The security industry praised Schwartz for taking the job after the spate of attacks on RSA customers linked to the company's compromised SecurID tokens.

“Only job more public and challenging at the moment would be CSO of Sony,” said US security blogger Martin McKeay.

Another said Schwartz should exercise decisive action and “absolute transparency, your best hope of regaining and building trust”.

“Thanks to all for all the good wishes today as well as the reality checks,” Schwartz said. “I am very excited about this job and our field in general.”

Schwartz brings to RSA more than 25 years experience in the security industry.

Chief security officer of RSA parent company EMC, Dave Martin, had oversaw security at both companies and is charged with protecting some A$20b in assets.

Netwitness won the SC Awards Gatekeeper award at AusCERT in May.
