Volume of backup data disrupts business ops

Nearly two thirds of IT executives believe the volume of data they have to back up is disrupting their business operations, according to new research out today.

The BridgeHead Software study found that 93 per cent of respondents feel their routine backup volumes are on the up, and more than three quarters said they would benefit from reducing the amount of data they back up.

According to the figures, 37 per cent of IT executives admit that daily backups of primary data takes them more than nine hours, while a fifth spend over 12 hours on this routine task.

“IT executives are squandering time and resources on backing up and replicating static data. It’s a very poor use of resources,” said Tony Cotterill, CEO of BridgeHead Software, in a statement.

The survey questioned 472 IT executives in the UK and US.
